A natural person who works on their own account on a regular, personal, and direct basis, and for profit. It generally involves affiliation with the Special Scheme for Self-Employed Workers of the Social Security. The term sole trader is used interchangeably with self-employed, when in fact the self-employed person is not obliged to register their activity under that legal form, and vice versa. This figure is common in retail (clothing stores, food, stationery, etc.) and professionals (plumbers, electricians, painters, translators, etc.).
